The Artist — Taro Washimi
Taro Washimi was born in Tachikawa, Tokyo. His mother was a piano teacher, and his father was an artist who kept a studio in their home.
From an early age, Taro grew up surrounded by art and music, watching his father work and regularly visiting galleries with him. Many artists and creatives also gathered around his parents, and these experiences became the foundation of Taro’s creative sensibility.
In his early twenties, Taro traveled through Southeast Asia with a backpack, experiencing different cultures and ways of life. What left the deepest impression on him was the people he met and the way families
supported each other through hard work. Seeing children working to help support their households strongly impacted his outlook, and when he returned to Japan he felt more grounded and determined to build a life through his own hands.
Shortly afterwards, Taro’s mother passed away at the young age of 54, and his father developed Alzheimer’s. Wanting to support his father,Taro decided to make a living through craftsmanship. He worked multiple jobs
during the day and spent nights and days off making products, selling leather goods online and sometimes on the streets of Tokyo. Over time, he began
creating his own silver buttons and decorative hardware to pair with his leather pieces, which naturally led him into jewelry making. As his work gained recognition, Taro became independent as a full-time jewelry designer in 2009.
Today, Taro is a father of two. He enjoys running and
cooking, and he values time outdoors as a way to reset. He is also deeply curious and continues learning through podcasts and programs while he works,
exploring topics ranging from space and business to education and science.
Setting big goals and taking on new challenges is part of who he is—and that drive is reflected in the detail, focus, and craftsmanship of everything he
creates.

Since 2009, TaroWashimi has continued to create one-of-a-kind pieces by combining the traditions of Native American jewelry with the original vision and artistry of Taro Washimi. Each original prototype is handcrafted individually by hand, embodying the spirit, precision, and individuality that define the brand.
The distinctive design language and meticulous craftsmanship of TaroWashimi have earned recognition beyond Japan, leading to expansion into Beijing, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and Korea as of 2026. While continuing to grow its presence around the world, the brand remains rooted in an uncompromising dedication to craftsmanship, constantly pursuing new possibilities while shaping the next chapter of its history.
