Taroは長い間、ナジャにインスパイアされたペンダントを作りたいと願っていました。
ナジャは、特にアメリカ南西部のネイティブアメリカンジュエリーに見られる、三日月型のシンボルで、「再生」「生命の誕生」「力強さ」を意味します。
何年も前に一度新しいナジャのデザインに挑戦したことがありましたが、その時は完成には至りませんでした。その時がベストのタイミングではなかったのです。しかし、パンデミックの中でもTaroWashimiブランドが少しずつ成長し、そして50歳で第二子を授かったことで、彼の中で何かが動きました。今こそ、もう一度ナジャに向き合う時だと感じたのです。
Taroの作品に共通しているのは、デザインをデジタルではなく、頭の中のイメージを頼りに、手作業で銀を削り出していくというスタイル。このナジャも例外ではなく、彼自身の感覚と経験を通して、一から彫り上げられました。
ナジャの下部は、TaroWashimiのシグネチャーでもある「唐草模様（Karakusa）」を思わせる、柔らかく丸みのある仕上がりになっています。背面のフックにもそのディテールが織り込まれており、全体に優雅な一体感をもたらしています。
Taroにとって、このナジャを身に着けることは、日本のお守りを身に着けるような感覚だと言います。それは単なるジュエリーではなく、人生の流れと再生の象徴として、心に寄り添う物語そのものなのです。
The Story of the TaroWashimi Naja
Taro had long dreamt of creating a new pendant inspired by the Naja—a powerful symbol deeply rooted in Native American jewelry, especially within Southwestern traditions. This crescent-shaped design, often seen in Navajo and Pueblo adornments, symbolizes resilience, new life, and fertility.
Years ago, Taro attempted a new Naja design but set it aside, unsatisfied with the result. The timing didn’t feel right. But as the TaroWashimi brand continued to grow—even through the challenges of the pandemic—and as Taro welcomed his second child at the age of 50, something shifted. He knew it was time to return to the Naja, this time with renewed purpose and personal meaning.
As with all of his pieces, Taro crafted the Naja pendant entirely by hand, sculpting the silver intuitively from an image held only in his mind. He forgoes digital tools like CAD, preferring instead to work through feel, memory, and intention.
The bottom curve of the Naja mirrors the signature TaroWashimi Karakusa—a delicate, flowing vine motif—finished with soft, rounded edges. Even the hook at the back carries this subtle detail, tying the piece together with understated elegance.
For Taro, wearing the Naja feels like wearing an omamori, a Japanese charm meant to protect and empower. It is more than jewelry. It is a story—of perseverance, of life’s cycles, and of creating something that can be carried close to the heart.
